RCB wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik failed yet again to live up to the expectations.

One of the most experienced players going around in the IPL, Dinesh Karthik has found it hard to get going this season. His string of poor scores has been a huge worry for his team. His inability to close out matches and provide the team with the much-needed finishing touches has left RCB in disarray on most occasions than not. In the game against GT, Dinesh Karthik didn't trouble the scorers as the wicket-keeper batter went for nought. With this, he now holds the unwanted record for most ducks (17) in IPL, leaving behind Rohit Sharma with 16 ducks.

Karthik's overall IPL career highlights very mediocre stats for a batter of a capability like himself. He has played 242 matches thus far with a total of 4516 runs at an average of 25.80. His IPL 2023 season too has been on the wrong side of his preference as he could manage to score a meagre 140 runs in 13 games at an average of as low as 11.67.

Tonight against Gujarat Titans, Karthik walked into bat at a very crucial time for RCB when the team required some quick runs from him. Failing to bother the scorers, Karthik fell to the short ball on the very first ball of his innings to Yash Dayal. Troubled in the past as well to the shortish length early into his innings, Yash and GT's ploy against him worked to leave RCB in a spot of bother.

Batsmen with most ducks in the IPL:

  1. Dinesh Karthik - 17
  2. Rohit Sharma - 16
  3. Sunil Narine - 15
  4. Mandeep Singh - 15
  5. Glenn Maxwell - 14
  6. Manish Pandey - 14
  7. Ambati Rayudu - 14

Is it time for RCB to look beyond Dinesh Karthik?

After a poor run with KKR, Dinesh Karthik was roped in by RCB in 2022. Producing one of the fines seasons for himself, Karthik touched his peaked and earned the India call-up as well for the T20 World Cup. Performing the finishing role to perfection for RCB in IPL 2022, Karthik scored 330 runs in 16 games at an average of 55 and with a mind-boggling strike rate of 183.33.

Although IPL 2023 hasn't been a story near to the one in the 2022 season. Struggling to find his mojo, Karthik let down his team more often than not. A young cricketer in Anuj Rawat in the ranks of RCB, it will be a question if RCB will persist with the experience of Dinesh Karthik in the upcoming seasons as well.
