Ex-India player Dodda Ganesh questions Shivam Dube's selection over Sanju Samson in ODI squad for Sri Lanka series

Sanju Samson scored a hundred in his last ODI appearance for India.

Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh has slammed Indian selectors for picking all-rounder Shivam Dube over wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson in the ODI squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting from August 2.

On July 18, 2024, the BCCI announced the squads for the upcoming white-ball tour against Sri Lanka. India will play three-match T20I series from July 27 to July 30. While, three ODIs are scheduled from August 2 to August 7.

The squad announcement by the BCCI gave a lot of surprises to many cricket fans. The BCCI included Riyan Parag and Dube in the ODI squad, while star batter Shubman Gill was named as the vice-captain for the white-ball tour.

Shockingly, BCCI snubbed Ruturaj Gaikwad from the white-ball squads, even though Gaikwad had a stunning run in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.

The BCCI selectors included wicket-keeper batter Samson in the T20I squad. However, the star cricketer didn’t find a place in the ODI squad even after smashing a crucial century in his last ODI appearance against South Africa in December 2023.

Many cricket pundits, including former Indian cricketer Ganesh, were unhappy with BCCI selectors for picking all-rounder Dube over Samson in the ODI line-up for the Sri Lanka series.

Taking it to his X handle (formerly Twitter), Dodda expressed sadness on Samson’s exclusion, who even scored a hundred in his last ODI appearance.

“Shivam Dube in place of Sanju Samson in the ODIs is ridiculous. Poor Sanju scored a century in his last series against SA. Why him always? My heart goes out to this young man.” Former India cricketer Ganesh wrote on his X handle.
