Ajinkya Rahane heaped praise on India’s batting unit.
Discarded Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane feels that the bowling department is a big concern for India in the ongoing five-match test series against England. His comments came as India are gearing up to face England in the final test of the series, which will be played at The Oval from July 31.
In the fourth test at Old Trafford, Manchester, Indian bowlers leaked 669 runs in the first innings. Joe Root and Ben Stokes smacked centuries, while Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope scored half-centuries for England.
India were on the verge of defeat in the encounter, however, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar rescued India with their centuries in the second innings. Notably, India were short of pacer Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the fourth test. While Akash was ruled out of the Manchester test, Reddy was ruled out of remainder of the series due to a knee injury.

Ajinkya Rahane feels India’s bowling department is a big concern
While speaking on his YouTube channel, test specialist Ajinkya Rahane said that India’s batting unit is fantastic, but their bowling department is a concern.
“The India team is playing well, and the batting unit has been fantastic. What concerns the Indian team is the bowling department. A couple of bowlers are bowling well, but they are not getting the support,” Ajinkya Rahane said.
In the last test, England registered the highest-ever total (669/10) at Old Trafford, Manchester in test cricket. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar conceded more than 100 runs during their spells in the first innings.
Meanwhile, Siraj and Bumrah have clinched 14 wickets each in the series so far. They are the highest wicket-takers for India in the ongoing series. Akash has shown decent form with 11 wickets in two matches. It was already decided as workload management plan that Bumrah will play only three out of the five tests, but with the series on the line, it is to be seen if Bumrah will be playing the final test at The Oval.
India need to win the fifth test to level the series 2-2.
