Regular England test captain missed the recently-concluded Sri Lanka test series.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named a 17-member squad for the three-match series against the Pakistan cricket team in October 2024. Test captain Ben Stokes returned to the side after missing the recent three-match test series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury.
Apart from Stokes, star opener Zak Crawley also returned to the England test line-up after missing the two home test series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka. The 26-year-old fractured his little finger on right hand in July.
Leicestershire leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who made his test debut during the Pakistan tour in 2022, has also been included in the squad for the upcoming series. Left-arm spinner Jack Leach also made his return to the squad for the first time since the opening test against the Indian cricket team in January 2024.
The ECB has also included two uncapped players—seamer Brydon Carse and batter Jordan Cox, for the three-match series against Pakistan.
Following his test debut in the third test against Sri Lanka, left-arm speedster Josh Hull also has been included in the line-up for his first away test tour.
England’s test squad for Pakistan series:
Ben Stokes (C), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes.
