Ever since the schedule for the IPL 2023 was released, there were widespread rumors that two of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will clash in the milestone 1000th encounter of the richest T20 league in the world.
CSK and MI are slated to take place on May 6 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium would mark the historic occasion.
However, the rumored information is not correct and instead of the CSK v MI match, the encounter between MI and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 30th April will be the 1000th match of the IPL history.
Ahead of the commencement of the ongoing 16th edition of the IPL, a total of 958 games were contested in the cricketing carnival, which indicates that the 42nd match of the current season will indeed be the historic 1000th game.
Many have overlooked the fact that there are 7 matches in the IPL that have no result, however, they have been counted as matches. This means these 7 encounters and the CSK v MI encounter will be the 49th match of the IPL 2023.
As per the IPL 2023 schedule, the 42nd match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The clash will witness a momentous milestone as the league attains this outstanding feat.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that on Sunday, April 30, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will square off in the tournament’s 1000th game, the BCCI has plans to mark the milestone in style as per Times of India.
"The BCCI will hold a small celebration to mark the occasion. The volunteers will be holding the 1000th IPL match flag, ‘thank you’ flag and the Indian flag. The whole ceremony will last for just 10-15 minutes. It will kick off withRavi Shastri addressing the crowd. Then, a video will be played out in which a few players will talk about the IPL. Then, the BCCI office-bearers will hand over a memento to both the captains (Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson), which will be followed by the national anthem. A dry run will be held on the eve of the match," a reliable source in the BCCI told TOI on Friday.
An event management company has been contracted by the IPL for conducting the small function.
