Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is all set to skip the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Announcing on social media, Du Plessis revealed his plans for 2026. He will take part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), becoming one of the star attractions of the league.

Faf du Plessis played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last season of the IPL. The South African had an underwhelming season with the bat as he could accumulate only 209 runs in nine matches at an average of 22.44. Contrary to his reputation, his strike rate also dipped to 123.93 in the last season.

Faf made the announcement on his social media handles.

“After 14 seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back,” wrote Faf du Plessis in his post.

Recollecting his journey and the love he received in India, Faf’s statement further read, “this league has been a massive part of my journey. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else. India has given me friendships, lessons, and memories that have shaped me as a cricketer and as a person.”

He also acknowledged the role of his teammates and coaches in helping him on his glorious journey in the IPL. “To every coach, teammate, support staff member, and every fan who has backed me over the years – thank you. Your support has meant the world,” said du Plessis.

The former RCB skipper has assured the Indian fans that he will be back soon.

“Fourteen years is a long time, and I’m proud of what this chapter has meant to me. India has a special place in my heart, and this certainly isn’t goodbye – you’ll see me again,” concluded Faf du Plessis.

Faf switches to Pakistan Super League

In the same social media post, Faf du Plessis also announced his decision to play in the upcoming PSL season.

Addressing the cricket fans in Pakistan, Faf’s post read, “This year, I’ve chosen to take on a new challenge and will be playing in the upcoming PSL season. It’s an exciting step for me – a chance to experience something new, to grow it as a player, and to embrace a league filled with incredible talent and energy. A new country. A new environment. A new challenge. I’m looking forward to the Pakistan hospitality. See you all soon.”
