SA20 2026: Big blow for Joburg Super Kings; Captain Faf du Plessis ruled out due to injury

du Plessis has been with the Joburg Super Kings since the inception of the SA20 league.

The captain of the Joburg Super Kings, Faf du Plessis, has suffered an injury that will keep him out of SA20 2025–26, which is a major and emotional development. The 41-year-old scored 135 runs in five innings for JSK at the top of the order at an average of 27.00 and a strike rate of 151.68.

The 41-year-old, who is well-liked by both teammates and supporters, will have to undergo surgery after tearing a ligament in his right thumb.

One of the best teams in the SA20 league, the Joburg Super Kings, has participated in seven games so far this season. Under the direction of du Plessis, they have won three games, lost two, and two matches ended in a tie.

Faf du Plessis ruled out of SA20 2026 due to thumb injury

After giving up on international cricket a long time ago, Faf du Plessis has been playing franchise league cricket all over the world.

Due to the right thumb ligament damage, he is unable to play for the Joburg Super Kings this season. Surgical correction is necessary since the injury has been determined to be a serious blow.

Joburg Super Kings took to their social media platforms to update fans about the change.

”All our love with you, skipper. Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear requiring surgical repair. Our best wishes are with you,” tweeted JSK. 

For the rest of the season, the Joburg Super Kings will need to choose a new captain. In the most recent SA20, either James Vince or Donovan Ferreira will lead the Super Kings.

Last season, the Super Kings advanced to the SA20 knockout stages; however, they were eliminated after playing Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the Eliminator match at the Centurion. Faf has been a standout player for the Super Kings team in the MLC, SA20, and IPL tournaments.

He has played 40 games for the Joburg Super Kings since the SA20 league began. One of the greatest hitters in SA20 league history, du Plessis has scored 365, 239, and 286 runs in the last three seasons. Overall, he has scored 1,025 runs in 40 games.
