[Watch] Fan invades pitch startles and then hugs Rohit Sharma during MI vs RR IPL 2024 clash
Rohit Sharma got out on a golden duck for MI in their match against RR.
Rohit Sharma was startled when a pitch invader approached him during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday (April 1).
The event occurred during the Royals’ innings. Rohit Sharma was standing at first slip, ostensibly gazing at the field placement, when he was taken off surprise by a spectator who ran towards him. As the fan approached Rohit, he became afraid and took a few steps back.
The former India captain, however, allowed the admirer to hug him. The fan also hugged Ishan Kishan before walking away and being led out of the ground by security.
This is the second time this season that a fan has evaded all security and entered the pitch. A similar situation occurred last week in Bengaluru while Royal Challengers Bengaluru were playing against Punjab Kings. A fan entered the pitch to embrace Virat Kohli before being hauled out.

Coming to the match between MI and RR, Sanju Samson, the visiting captain won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium. And Trent Boult (3/22) and Nandra Burger (2/32) reduced MI to 20/4 in no time with Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis were all dismissed for golden ducks. Ishan Kishan followed them soon for 16 runs.
The middle-order was demolished by Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 3/11. Only Tilak Varma (32) and Hardik Pandya (34) managed to make some runs, which took MI to 125/9 in 20 overs.
