T20I games often witness narrow defeats and victories, which surprises and shocks the viewers. Moreover, batsmen are always in the driver’s seat in T20Is, especially when venues are batting-friendly.

South Africa are one of the strongest teams in T20I cricket, who have dominated opposition teams at home and also have challenged them during foreign tours. Over the years, South Africa have produced some hard-hitting batsmen in T20I cricket, who have impressed cricket fans with their powerful knocks.

5. Faf du Plessis – 46 balls, vs West Indies, 2015

Faf du Plessis registered a ton against the West Indies in January 2015 in a losing cause. After being asked to bat first in the second T20I in Johannesburg, Proteas piled up 231/7 on the scoreboard.

Faf du Plessis, who was leading South Africa then, hit a ton off just 46 balls while batting at three and eventually got out for 119 runs off 56 balls. His knock was laced with five sixes and 11 boundaries.

However, his incredible knock went in vain as the West Indies chased down the target by four wickets. Chris Gayle (90) and Marlon Samuels (60) powered the visitors to victory with their stunning half-centuries.

4. Richard Levi – 45 balls, vs New Zealand, 2012

Richard Levi, the first South African batsman to score a century in T20I cricket, currently occupies the fourth spot on this list. South Africa and New Zealand clashed in the second T20I at Seddon Park, Hamilton in February 2012.

Led by Brendon McCullum, the hosts New Zealand posted 173/4 in the first innings, with a crucial innings of 47 runs by opener Martin Guptill. However, South African opener Richard produced a blistering batting performance during the chase, hitting an unbeaten ton to drive South Africa to victory by eight wickets like a walk in the park.

Hitting 13 sixes and five fours during his innings, Richard reached his century off just 45 balls and eventually ended with 117* runs off 51 deliveries. After scripting history for South Africa in the encounter, Richard was adjudged Player of the Match.

3. Quinton de Kock- 43 balls, vs West Indies, 2023

With his 43-ball century against the West Indies, Quinton de Kock captures third place. During the second T20I in March 2023 in Centurion, the West Indies posted a gigantic total of 258/5 in the first innings after being asked to bat first. Opener Kyle Mayers (51) smacked a fifty while Johnson Charles (118) hammered a ton for the visitors.

During the chase, Proteas opener de Kock slammed a century off 43 deliveries to set the platform for the team’s victory. The wicket-keeper batsman lost his wicket after scoring 100 runs off 44 balls, however, he executed his job perfectly as South Africa chased down the target by six wickets. The left-handed batter was also adjudged Player of the Match.

2. Dewald Brevis – 41 balls, vs Australia, 2025

Dewald Brevis scored his maiden T20I hundred against Australia in a T20I in Darwin in August 2025. In what happened to be his career’s ninth T20I game, Brevis smashed a 41-ball ton and finished his innings at 125. His knock of 125 is also the highest individual score by a South African batter in T20I cricket.

David Miller steals the top spot on this list with his 35-ball century against Bangladesh in 2017. In the second T20I in Potchefstroom, South Africa were asked to bat first. Opener Hashim Amla gave a wonderful start to batting with his 85-run knock.

Later, Miller shattered a ton off just 35 deliveries, hitting nine sixes and seven boundaries while batting at five. The left-handed batter remained unbeaten at 101 runs and helped the hosts score 224/4. Bangladesh were then bowled out for just 141 runs in the second innings, losing the encounter by a huge margin of 83 runs.
