The top five lowest scores in SA20 history are accumulated by five different teams in the tournament.

Limited-overs cricket is often considered to be dominated by batters. However, on certain occasions, the tables are turned as the bowlers decide the game’s outcome based on their prowess.

A recent example of bowlers dominating the game was witnessed in SA20 2026, where Paarl Royal lost against Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 137 runs. However, fans are wondering where the Royals’ batting collapse ranks in the overall list of lowest totals in the SA20.

5. Durban’s Super Giants – 80 vs Pretoria Capitals

Playing at the home ground in January 2023, Durban Super Giants had a tough time answering the deliveries of Pretoria Capitals bowlers. Batting first, only Heinrich Klaasen managed to score more than 20 runs individually. With the help of Klaasen’s 31, DSG accumulated a total of 80 runs in 18 overs.

Senuran Muthusamy took three wickets, while Wayne Parnell, Eathan Bosch and Anrich Nortje each took two wickets. The target wasn’t an issue for the Capitals, as they won the match in eight overs.

4. Joburg Super Kings – 78 vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Failing to set a strong target in a crucial game, the Joburg Super Kings only scored 78 runs against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in February 2024. Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks were dismissed for ducks only in the second over of the match. Wayne Madsen played a 32-run inning amid the constant falling of wickets on the other end.

However, he was only able to steer the team towards a final score of 78. Daniel Worrall and Patrick Kruger picked up three wickets each. With the quick-fire innings of Dawid Malan and Tom Abell, the Sunrisers chased down the score in 11 overs.

3. Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 77 vs MI Cape Town

The most successful team in the tournament, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, had their lowest total when they faced MI Cape Town in the 2025 season. SEC were chasing a target of 175; however, they failed to accumulate even half of the desired score.

Courtesy of Delano Potgieter’s five-wicket haul, the Sunrisers only managed to score 77 runs in 15 overs, losing the match with a margin of 97 runs. Captain Aiden Markram was the top scorer for the Sunrisers with 19 runs.

2. Pretoria Capitals – 52 vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The Pretoria Capitals experienced a batting line-up failure against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in January 2024, scoring only 52 runs. Phil Salt and Will Jacks were the top scorers for the Capitals in the match, as they scored 10 and 12 runs, respectively.

Daniel Worrall and Marco Jansen dismantled the top order of the Capitals. Later, Ottniel Baartman took four wickets, ending the hopes of the Pretoria Capitals of a potential comeback. The whole team was back in the pavilion at the score of 52, which was chased down by the SEC in seven overs.

1. Paarl Royals – 49 vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Paarl Royals’ score in their recent fixture against Sunrisers Eastern Cape is the lowest in the history of SA20. While chasing a target of 187, the Royals’ batting line-up failed drastically, as the whole side was dismissed before crossing the 50-run mark.

Asa Tribe was the top scorer for Paarl with 14 runs, followed by Kyle Verreynne, who scored 11. Nevertheless, South African bowler Anrich Nortje picked four wickets while leaking only 13 runs in three overs. Adam Milne and Tharindu Rathnayake took two wickets each as the Paarl Royals only managed to accumulate 49 runs in almost 12 overs.
