Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the most consistent teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, winning five titles and reaching the playoffs on several occasions. Much of that success came under Stephen Fleming’s tenure, however, the last few seasons have not gone the way Chennai would have wanted.
The franchise missed the playoffs for three successive seasons, including IPL 2026, and finished the campaign looking for changes ahead of the next season.
Fleming’s departure was one of the biggest changes at CSK. He had been part of the franchise since the inaugural IPL season in 2008 and took over as head coach in 2009. His long run with the team finally came to an end in 2026.
The franchise have now started a new chapter by appointing former India pacer Zaheer Khan as their head coach for IPL 2027. While Zaheer’s appointment is confirmed, there are still questions around the rest of the coaching staff that will work with him.

Zaheer Khan is the only major coaching appointment officially confirmed by CSK so far for IPL 2027. The former India fast bowler played 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is for India. He was also India‘s leading wicket-taker during the 2011 ODI World Cup, taking 21 wickets.
After retiring from international cricket, Zaheer Khan worked with Mumbai Indians in management and development roles before joining Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor. His experience will now be useful as he takes charge of the CSK coaching staff for IPL 2027.
Michael Hussey has been CSK’s batting coach for several years. His future with the franchise is yet to be confirmed after he turned down England’s Test batting coach role, as reported by Hindustan Times, and opted for a Cricket Australia consultancy instead.
CSK have not yet officially confirmed whether these coaches will continue under Zaheer in IPL 2027.
