India head coach Gautam Gambhir wants Ryan ten Doeschate as part of coaching staff - Reports

Ryan ten Doeschate worked with Gautam Gambhir as the fielding coach of KKR in IPL 2024.

On July 9, 2024, BCCI secretary Jay Shah officially announced the appointment of former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the senior men’s cricket team. The announcement came days after the conclusion of Rahul Dravid’s contract, which ended after the Men in Blue won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on June 29. 

Gambhir’s first assignment with the Indian side will start with the upcoming away tour in Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will play three ODIs and as many T20s in the upcoming exciting series. 

However, the schedule for India Vs. Sri Lanka is yet to be confirmed by the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket. Tentatively, the tour is going to take place from July 27 to August 7.

Gambhir wants Ten Doeschate as part of his coaching staff in Indian cricket team

The 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning player Gambhir brings a wealth of experience to the Indian side after being appointed as the new head coach of the team.

Gambhir also led the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to two title wins in 2012 and 2014. In the IPL 2024 edition, as a mentor, Gambhir helped Kolkata to win their third crown.

As per a new report by Cricbuzz, Gambhir, who has requested a free hand in managing the Indian side, wants a surprising addition to his coaching staff.

The new head coach wants to add the 44-year-old former Netherlands cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate to the team’s backroom staff. However, the decision lies with the Indian cricket board, which has recently invested only in Indians in coaching roles.

Interestingly, Ten Doeschate worked with the 42-year-old Gambhir in the IPL 2024 edition as the fielding coach of KKR. The former Dutch player has also worked with Kolkata’s subsidiary franchises in the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket and ILT20.
