Who is Harry Singh? Former Indian pacer's son takes field for England during ENG vs SL test

Harry Singh has played seven List A games till now for Lancashire.

The Lancashire trio of Harry Singh, Charlie Barnard, and Kesh Fonseka were picked for 12th man duties by the England cricket team for their opening test match against Sri Lanka in Manchester on August 21.

Harry Singh, who is the son of former Indian pacer RP Singh senior, made an appearance on the field as a substitute after the third over during Sri Lanka’s first innings on day 1 of the test. Singh returned to the field again in the 37th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when vice-captain Harry Brook went off the field.

After electing to bat first, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 236 in their first innings. In reply, England made 22/0 in four overs and are trailing by 214 runs at stumps on Day 1.

Who is Harry Singh, the son of former Indian pacer RP Singh senior?

Harry is the son of former Indian cricketer RP Singh senior. RP Singh represented India in the 1980s and played two ODIs. The former cricketer had a much longer domestic career of 59 First-Class matches in which he took 150 wickets. The former cricketer also amassed 1413 runs with the bat.

RP Singh moved to England in the late 1990s and started his career in coaching with Lancashire County and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

RP Singh’s son Harry made his List A debut for Lancashire earlier this July in the One-Day Cup. The 20-year-old has played seven List A matches and scored 87 runs at an average of 12.42. Harry also bowls off-breaks and has two wickets to his name in List A cricket.

Harry was picked in the England U-19 team in 2022 for their home series against Sri Lanka U-19. Currently, the youngster is part of England’s senior cricket team as a substitute in the ongoing three-match test series against Sri Lanka.
