Kane Williamson is the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in test cricket.

Kane Williamson is regarded as one of the greatest batters to represent the New Zealand cricket team, especially in test cricket. Williamson is also part of the “Fab Four” in modern-day cricket, which consists of Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Steve Smith and he has gone toe-to-toe with the other three legendary batters over the past dozen years.

The former New Zealand skipper made his test debut against the Indian cricket team in Ahmedabad in November 2010. Since then, Williamson has been the backbone for the Black Caps’ batting line-up in the longest format.

The 34-year-old is the highest test run-scorer for his country. Williamson has amassed 8881 runs in 102 matches at an admirable average of 54.48, notching up 32 centuries and 35 half-centuries till now. Williamson has also slammed the most test ton by any Black Caps batter so far.

5. 200* runs vs Bangladesh, 2019

In a test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh in Hamilton in 2019, Kane Williamson recorded a double ton. Batting first, Bangladesh were bundled out for 234 after pacer Neil Wagner bagged a five-wicket haul.

In reply, New Zealand openers Jeet Raval (132) and Tom Latham (162) provided the hosts a solid start. Williamson didn’t let the momentum down and played an unbeaten innings of 200 runs in 257 deliveries, which guided the hosts to 715/6d.

In Bangladesh’s second innings, Soumya Sarkar (149) and Mahmudullah (146) played fighting knocks, but those went in vain as Bangladesh were all out for 429, losing the game by an innings and 52 runs. Williamson was awarded the Player of the Match award for his glorious double century.

4. 215 vs Sri Lanka, 2023

Williamson plundered a double ton against Sri Lanka in Wellington in March 2023. Batting first, Williamson led his side to a huge total by slamming 215 runs off 296 balls, and Henry Nicholls also cracked a double century. The Black Caps ended their first innings at 580/4d.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 164 and 358. The Kiwis won the Wellington test by an innings and 58 runs.

3. 238 vs Pakistan, 2021

Against Pakistan in Christchurch in January 2021, the former New Zealand captain registered a giant individual score of 238.

Batting first, Pakistan made 297 after Azhar Ali played a crucial knock of 93 runs. In reply, Kane Williamson ransacked 238 runs off 364 balls and Henry Nicholls played a fine innings of 157 runs, which powered the hosts to 659/6d.

In reply, the visitors were bundled out for 186 runs, losing by an innings and 176 runs.

2. 242* vs Sri Lanka, 2015

Williamson’s maiden test double century came against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2015. Batting first, New Zealand made 221 runs after Williamson played a gritty knock of 69 runs off 115 deliveries.

In reply, Sri Lanka made 356 runs as Kumar Sangakkara cracked 203 runs, which put them in a commanding position.

Williamson then played an outstanding knock of 242* runs off 438 balls, which guided New Zealand to 524/5d. Black Caps set a target of 390 runs for the visitors.

While chasing, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 196, thus losing the test by 193 runs. Williamson was adjudged the Player of the Match for his terrific knocks in both innings.

1. 251 vs West Indies, 2020

Kane Williamson’s highest score in test cricket is 251, which he registered against West Indies in Hamilton in December 2020.

Batting first, Williamson played a sublime knock of 251 runs off 412 balls, including 34 fours and two sixes. Williamson’s innings propelled the Black Caps to 519/7d.

In reply, West Indies were bundled out for 138 and 247 (following on) to concede a defeat by an innings and 134 runs. Williamson was adjudged the Player of the Match for his magnificent knock.
