Ravichandran Ashwin has played many fighting knocks in his great test career.

Ravichandran Ashwin is recognized as one of the greatest players in test cricket history. The all-rounder is the second-highest wicket-taker for the Indian cricket team the longest format. The veteran has produced several match-winning performances with the ball, especially on Asian tracks for his nation.

Ashwin made his test debut against the West Indies in New Delhi in November 2011. Since then, the Tamil Nadu off-spinner has scalped 516 wickets in 100 matches at a superb bowling average of 23.75. 

Apart from producing stunning performances with the ball, R Ashwin has shown his skillset with the bat as well. The 38-year-old has played a number of gritty knocks while batting lower down the order.

With the bat, Ashwin has made 3309 runs in 100 tests at an average of 26.26. On that note, let’s take a look at the top five highest scores by Ashwin in the longest format.

5. 103 vs West Indies, Wankhede, 2011

Ravichandran Ashwin made his maiden test century against the West Indies at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in November 2011. Batting first, the West Indies scored 590 runs in the first innings. In reply, Ashwin played a brilliant knock of 103 runs off 118 deliveries, which helped the hosts post 482 runs.

In the visitors’ second innings, Ravi Ashwin scalped four wickets, and the West Indies were all out for 134 runs. The match ended in a draw. Ashwin was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant all-round show.

4. 106 vs England, Chennai, 2021

Ashwin’s first test century in his home city, Chennai, came in the second test match of the series in 2021 against England. India made 329 in the first innings with Rohit Sharma scoring 161 runs. In reply, England were bundled out for 134 runs.

In India’s second innings, Ashwin played a wonderful knock of 106 runs off 148 deliveries, with 14 fours and one six, which helped the hosts set a huge target of 482 for the visitors.

While chasing, England were all out for 164 runs, with Ashwin picking up three wickets. India won the match by a massive margin of 317 runs. Ashwin was named the Player of the Match.

3. 113 vs West Indies, North Sound, 2016

During the first test match between the West Indies and India in North Sound in July 2016, Ravichandran Ashwin notched up his third test century.

Batting first, India declared at 566/8. Virat Kohli scored a double ton and Ravi Ashwin played a splendid knock of 113 runs off 253 deliveries, with 12 boundaries.

West Indies were bowled out for 243 and 231 and lost the match by an innings and 92 runs. Ashwin was named Player of the Match for his stunning all-round show as took a seven-wicket haul as well after hitting a century.

2. 118 vs West Indies, Gros Islet, 2016

During the third test match between the West Indies and India in Gros Islet in August 2016, R Ashwin registered his fourth test hundred.

Batting first, India were struggling at 126-5 before Ashwin stitched a crucial double-hundred partnership with Wriddhiman Saha (118). Ashwin played a marvellous knock of 118 runs, which helped India reach 353.

West Indies made 225 runs in the first innings. In India’s second innings, they declared at 217-7 and set a target of 345 runs for the hosts.

While chasing, the hosts were all out for just 108 runs. India won the match by 237 runs. Ashwin was named Player of the Match for his brilliant outing with the bat.

1. 124 vs West Indies, Eden Gardens, 2013

Ravichandran Ashwin’s highest score in test cricket came at the Eden Gardens during the first test match against the West Indies in the home series in 2013.

Batting first, West Indies were all-out for 234 runs. In reply, Rohit Sharma scored 177 and Ravi Ashwin scored 124 runs, with 11 boundaries, and helped the team score 453.

In West Indies’ second innings, Mohammed Shami bagged a five-wicket haul, which helped India win the match by an innings and 51 runs.
