Yashasvi Jaiswal made his test debut in July 2023 against West Indies.

Few openers in the history of test cricket have had the kind of start to their test careers as Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander from Uttar Pradesh made his test debut in July 2023 in West Indies at the age of only 21, and within a year he broke into the top 10 ICC test batting rankings.

After only his first nine test matches, in which he batted 16 times, Jaiswal had amassed over 1000 runs, becoming the second-fastest Indian and the joint sixth-fastest in the world to do so. This included having a sensational series against England, in which he piled up over 700 runs, becoming only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score more than 700 runs in a bilateral series.

It can be realised clearly that Jaiswal has a penchant for big scores. In this article, we will see his five highest test scores.

Top 5 highest scores by Yashasvi Jaiswal in test cricket:

5. 73 vs England, Ranchi, 2024

In India’s first innings of the fourth test of the test series against England in 2024 at home, Jaiswal played a crucial hand of 73 runs as India lost four wickets for less than 150 runs. His 73 off 117, which included eight fours and a six, was followed by Dhruv Jurel’s 90 that helped India post 307 in reply to England’s 353.

England were bowled out for 145 in their second innings. Chasing the target of 192, Rohit and Gill scored half-centuries, Jaiswal scored 37 and Jurel scored 39* as India won the game with five wickets in hand.

4. 80 vs England, Hyderabad, 2024

Yashasvi Jaiswal started the 2024 test series against England with a bang as he smashed 80 runs off 74 balls in the first test in Hyderabad. In reply to England’s 246, the left-handed opener came out all guns blazing and smoked 10 fours and three sixes as he tore into the English bowlers.

However, England made an epic turnaround in the match through Ollie Pope’s 196 and Tom Hartley’s seven-wicket haul to win the match by 28 runs.

After losing the first test of the five-match series at home against England in 2024, India bounced back in the second test, in Visakhapatnam, through the sheer brilliance of Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah.

Batting first, Jaiswal took down the English bowlers with his maiden double-century, scoring 209 runs off 290 balls with the help of 19 fours and seven sixes while being at the crease for almost four sessions. Bumrah then took nine wickets in the match and India won the game by 106 runs.

In the third test of the IND vs ENG test series 2024 in Rajkot, Jaiswal recorded his career’s second double century and his highest test score of 214*.

While he scored only 10 runs in India’s first innings, in which Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja registered centuries, Jaiswal humbled the England bowlers in a marathon innings in the second innings by scoring 214 unbeaten runs off 236 deliveries, in the process whacking 14 fours and 12 sixes.

Jadeja’s five-for in England’s second innings meant the visitors were bowled out for only 122 runs while chasing the target of 557.
