2024 T20 World Cup will take place in West Indies and USA as scheduled by the ICC.

After the World Test Championship 2023 final and the 2023 ODI World Cup, cricket fans will be treated to another major ICC event in 2024, which will be the T20 World Cup. However, in the past few days, some media reports claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to shift the venue for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which was scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA.

According to the reports, the ICC is in talks with the cricket boards and is thinking about this decision after looking at the cricket infrastructure in the USA. It also suggested that England, along with Scotland and Ireland, are emerging as the countries to host the event in 2024. However, on Saturday, the ICC declined all such rumors and confirmed that the tournament will take place as planned and that the West Indies and USA will be the co-hosts for the mega event.

No plans to shift 2024 T20 World Cup from West Indies and USA: International Cricket Council (ICC)

The reports from Cricbuzz quoted that the ICC has declined all shifting rumors of the marquee event. Furthermore, the ICC also confirmed that venues will be the same, and they have already done their inspection properly. An ICC spokesperson told Cricbuzz in an interaction that the tournament will take place in June next year.

The ICC spokesperson further confirmed, "Venue inspections have recently been concluded in both host territories, and planning for the event in June 2024 is in full swing. The 2024 event is scheduled for June, and the only other possible location is England. If someone were to ask the ECB if they can host in 2024, the answer would be crystal clear – they can’t. So, the possibility doesn’t even arise. Just a glance at the England venue fixtures for next year will confirm this to anyone observant enough."

The ninth edition of the tournament will be the biggest event in its history. It will include a total of 20 teams, which will compete in 55 games. Three venues will host games in the USA: Florida, Dallas, and one more. Notably, not just the ICC, but even the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also denied reports of England hosting the 2024 T20 event. The ECB said, "There is absolutely no truth to reports that the ICC Men’s T20 WC 2024 will be moved from the West Indies and the USA". Teams like India, England, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, West Indies, and USA have already qualified, while others will have to play the qualifier round.
