India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final defeating South Africa by seven runs.
India ended their ICC trophy drought by defeating South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final by only seven runs on Saturday at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
Virat Kohli became India’s hero with the bat for scoring 76 runs in 59 balls and took the side out of a precarious position of 34/3.
After India lost three wickets in the powerplay, Kohli went back to his conservative approach and reached his half-century in 48 balls before smashing two sixes and two fours. He was dismissed for 76 runs in the 19th over. Apart from Kohli, Axar Patel (47 off 31) and Shivam Dube (27 off 16) made crucial contributions to India’s total of 177.
With the ball, India started well by nipping out Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram early on but Tristan Stubbs counter-attacked with 31 runs in 21 balls before being bowled by Axar.
Klaasen then pulled the game in South Africa’s favour by blasting two fours and five sixes in his knock of 52 runs off 27 balls. The game looked gone for India when South Africa needed 30 runs in 30 balls. However, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh bowled five sensational overs to win the match by seven runs eventually.
There were only two individual awards handed out after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final:
Virat Kohli – Man of the Match

Kohli bagged the Man of the Match award for his 76 runs off 59 balls in the final, which helped India post 176. Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is. He signs off with a T20 World Cup trophy – something that had been missing from his cabinet in international cricket – and as the second-leading T20I run-scorer.
Jasprit Bumrah – Man of the Tournament

Bumrah has been flawless throughout the tournament, not putting a single foot wrong. He picked 15 wickets in eight games and conceded runs at a miserly economy of 4.17.
