ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Suryakumar Yadav suffers injury scare ahead of Super 8

Suryakumar Yadav hit a match-winning half-century against the USA on a tough surface.

Ahead of their Super 8 match in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against Afghanistan in Barbados, Team India were given an injury scare when star batsman Suryakumar Yadav got hit on his hand during a net session and needed attention from the medical staff.

Rohit Sharma’s side topped the Group A standings with seven points collected via three wins and a wash-out. They have been placed in Group 1 of the Super Eight round, along with Australia, Afghanistan and Bangaldesh.

India will kick off their Super 8 round against Afghanistan on June 20 at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. While India are the favourite to win this clash, Afghanistan can’t be taken lightly in these conditions; Rashid Khan’s side is coming off three dominating wins, including one over New Zealand, in the group stage.

Suryakumar Yadav suffers a hand injury scare in nets

Suryakumar, who is the number 1 ranked ICC men’s T20I batsman, was hit on his hand while batting in the nets in Barbados. One member of the medical staff attended to him as head coach Rahul Dravid also looked at them, with a worried look on his face. A pain-relieving spray was sprayed on Suryakumar’s hand. Thankfully, Yadav resumed batting and all seemed fine with his hand.

India will be hoping that this hit on his hand was not serious and doesn’t aggravate in the coming days as Suryakumar is a crucial cog in India’s middle order.

Suryakumar had started his campaign with two single-digit scores against Ireland and Pakistan but, amid criticism, he bounced back with a well-measured half-century that helped India ace a tricky chase against the USA.
