The upcoming final of the ICC WTC in 2025 has been allotted to the iconic and historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Notably, all three finals of the ICC WTC have been scheduled in June in the UK.
“We have spoken to the ICC for 2027”- Jay Shah on moving the WTC final out of England
In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has given a massive update on the venue for the WTC final in 2027. Shah indicated that the BCCI is in talks with the ICC to stage the WTC 2027 final somewhere other than England.
However, both WTC finals have been held in England, and the final of the current cycle will likewise be played at Lord’s, the cricketing world’s most famous venue. Shah disclosed that the BCCI made a daring move by approaching the apex body with a suggestion to host the WTC 2027 final at a different location.
However, Jay Shah also explained that England is seen as a suitable venue for the WTC finals which are held in June.
“We have spoken to the ICC for 2027. There are only three main Test centres, India, England and Australia. You cannot hold it in Australia during that window or even in India. Even in Bengaluru, it rains during that time,” Shah was quoted by PTI.
Each WTC cycle lasts two years, and the top two teams meet in the championship’s final fixture.
