Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are squaring off in match 2 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The encounter is taking place on Sunday, March 29, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Hardik Pandya is the captain of MI in IPL 2026 and the five-time champions will miss two key players in their initial games. New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner and England all-rounder Will Jacks are yet to join the MI squad in the tournament as they have asked for extended break.
KKR have retained Ajinkya Rahane as the captain for another season. However, they will miss the services of two crucial pacers in Harshit Rana and Akash Deep, both of whom have been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to injuries.
Blessing Muzarabani and Saurabh Dubey are the replacements for Rana and Deep respectively. Moreover, Matheesha Pathirana is recovering from a calf strain and is going to miss the start of the tournament.
The clash will be a big test for both teams. KKR have a poor record against MI at Wankhede Stadium, losing 10 games out of 12 over the years. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have never won their opening game of the tournament since the 2012 edition.
