IND vs BAN: What happened the last time Bangladesh toured India for a test series?

The IND vs BAN test series 2024 will be played from September 19 in India.

India and Bangladesh have played only a handful of test matches till now. India, with its strong batting lineup and experienced bowling attack, has outclassed Bangladesh on all but two occasions in test cricket.

So far, Bangladesh have toured India two times till now to play test cricket. The first they toured in 2016-17 for only one test match. In 2019-20, Bangladesh toured for a two-match test series against India.

The upcoming two-match test series between the two nations will be the third instance of Bangladesh touring India for a test series. The opening test will be played in Chennai from September 19. The second match of the series will be hosted in Kanpur from September 27.

What happened the last time Bangladesh toured India for a test series?

The last time the Bangladesh cricket team toured India for a test series was for a two-test series in 2019.

In the first test in Indore, opener Mayank Agarwal played a terrific knock of 243 runs in India’s first innings that helped the hosts reach 493 before they declared their innings.

In reply, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 150 runs, and India enforced a follow-on. In the second innings of the visitors, they were all-out for 213 and lost the match by an innings and 130 runs. Mayank Agarwal was named the Player of the Match.

The second test was a historic one for both sides, as it was a pink ball test that was played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the day-night format.

Batting first, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 106 as speedster Ishant Sharma picked up a five-wicket haul. Then, India’s then-captain Virat Kohli played a classy knock of 136 runs, which helped his side post 347.

In Bangladesh’s second innings, Indian pacers Umesh Yadav (5/53) and Ishant (4/56) bundled out the visitors for 195 runs. 

India won the second test match by an innings and 46 runs and whitewashed Bangladesh 2-0. Ishant was named the Player of the Match in Kolkata and the Player of the Series.
