Although Ravindra Jadeja took only one wicket in Bangladesh’s first innings in the 2nd IND vs BAN test in Kanpur, that was enough for him to etch his name in record books, break Kapil Dev’s long-standing record and get on a list just behind Ian Botham.
In Bangladesh’s first innings in Kanpur, Jadeja took the last wicket, that of Khaled Ahmed via a caught and bowled. With this wicket, Jadeja completed 300 test wickets in what is his 74th test match.
The left-arm finger spinner averages 24 with the ball and has 13 five-wicket hauls under his belt. The southpaw also has scored over 3000 runs in his test career.
Ravindra Jadeja becomes second-fastest player in the world to attain the double of 3000 runs and 300 wickets in test cricket
On Monday, in Kanpur, Jadeja completed the double of scoring 3000 runs and taking 300 wickets in test cricket. In terms of matches taken, he is the second-fastest player to do so. Jadeja reached this feat in his 74th test match. Only England’s Ian Botham took fewer tests (72 test matches) than Jadeja to complete this double.
Jadeja is quicker to this milestone than the legendary all-rounders Imran Khan (75), Kapil Dev (83) and Richard Hadlee (83).
Jadeja became the 7th Indian cricketer to take 300 test wickets. In terms of balls bowled to snap 300 scalps, he is the second-quickest behind R Ashwin. Jadeja took 300 wickets in 17428 balls, while Ashwin did it in 15636 deliveries.
