The right-handed batter will be in action against Bangladesh later this month, and he is eyeing achieving some huge milestones.
The Indian cricket team will take on Bangladesh in a two-match test series from September 19 in Chennai and Kanpur. This series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Ahead of the two-match test series against Bangladesh, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is on the verge of achieving a few important milestones, which we will discuss in this article.
IND vs BAN: 3 records which Rohit Sharma will eye in the test series
1. Needs seven sixes to achieve the record of most sixes by an Indian batter in test cricket
The 37-year-old Rohit has a great chance to surpass Virender Sehwag’s iconic record of most sixes by an Indian batter in test cricket.
Rohit has smashed 84 sixes in 59 matches till now. The opener needs seven more sixes to shatter the record of Sehwag’s 90 sixes in the longest format.
2. Needs 16 maximums to become the first Indian batter to hit 100 test sixes
Rohit needs 16 more maximums to become the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in test cricket.
Currently, the 37-year-old has walloped 84 sixes in 59 tests. In the upcoming test series Bangladesh, Rohit could hit his 100th six in test cricket if he gets going in a couple of innings.
3. Two centuries away from 50 centuries in international cricket
Rohit Sharma is on the verge of notching up his 50th century in international cricket. Sharma has recorded 48 hundreds across all formats till now. During the two-match test series against Bangladesh, the 37-year-old needs to hit two tons to achieve the glorious milestone of 50 international tons.
If successful, Rohit would become only the third Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (100) and Virat Kohli (80) to smash 50 international centuries.
