Shivam Dube was part of the T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka.

Ahead of the first T20I against Bangladesh, India all-rounder Shivam Dube went down with a back injury and has been ruled out of the upcoming three-T20I IND vs BAN series.

Suryakumar Yadav’s team will host Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side for a three-match T20I series, starting on Sunday, October 6, in Gwalior, with Delhi and Hyderabad to host the next two games.

India will be without Dube, who has been a regular part of the T20I team since the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Given the role of a middle-order spin-basher, the 31-year-old Dube has played 15 T20Is this year, in which he averages 32 with the bat and has struck two fifties.

In the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, the southpaw hammered 27 runs off 16 balls, which proved to be immensely crucial in India’s seven-run victory.

He then featured in the T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Dube, however, will miss the T20Is against Bangladesh owing to a back injury.

Who has replaced Shivam Dube in India’s T20I squad vs Bangladesh?

The BCCI Selection Committee has named 21-year-old Tilak Varma as Dube’s replacement for the IND vs BAN T20I series. Varma made his T20I debut in 2023 and has featured in 16 T20Is so far, in which he averages 33 with a strike rate of 139 and has notched up a couple of fifties.

Varma’s last T20I outing was against Afghanistan in January this year. Apart from being a highly talented batsman, Varma can also bowl part-time off-spin.

India’s updated squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, JItesh Sharma (wk), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Tilak Varma
