Jack Leach suffered left knee injury during the first IND vs ENG test in Hyderabad.
England left-arm spinner Jack Leach revealed that he will undergo surgery on his left knee, which he injured during the ongoing five-match test series between India and England. In the opening test match in Hyderabad, Leach suffered an injury on his left knee, which subsequently ruled him out of the ongoing tour.
The unfortunate incident happened when England’s left-arm spinner was fielding during the first test match in Hyderabad. While attempting to save a boundary, Leach collided with the ground after diving to save runs for England.
On day two of the match, Leach aggravated the injury, which meant he picked a swelling on his injured knee and was unable to bowl long bowling spells, though he did bowl 26 overs in the first innings. After that the left-arm spinner Leach managed to bowl just 10 overs in the second innings and he also picked up crucial wicket of Shreyas Iyer and helped the visitors secure a famous 28-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
England suffered a huge blow before the second test match as Jack Leach was ruled out of Visakhapatnam game, where hosts India won the match by 106 runs. However, England were hoping for Jack Leach to be fit in time for the third test at Rajkot. But it was decided during England’s break in Abu Dhabi that Leach won’t take any part for England in the remaining three tests.
“I’m going to have an operation to get the rest of the swelling out because it’s not budging. “It was quite an unfortunate one. It was the second ball of the first innings in the field so that whole game I was playing with this knee problem,” said Jack Leach on BBC Radio 5 Live.
It is to be noted that Jack Leach also suffers from Crohn’s disease and has just returned to action for the England cricket test team after recovering from a stress fracture in the back, which ruled him out of last year’s Ashes 2023 series against Australia at home.
“I obviously knocked it a few times throughout that game and it has just created a long period of recovery. I need to get the operation done and then hopefully I can get back to playing cricket. I’d love to have a run of playing cricket and getting into a bit of a rhythm again and hopefully that can happen again once I’ve got this sorted.” England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach said.
Following the conclusion of the five-match test series against India on March 11, Ben Stokes-led England’s next assignment in test cricket will be home series against the West Indies, starting on July 10 at the Lord’s. Before that, England will hope Jack Leach will fully recover after his left knee surgery and be available for the West Indies series.
