India will clash with Afghanistan in the 3rd ODI on June 20.
A three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan is underway. It started on June 13 in Dharamshala, followed by the match in Lucknow on June 17. India won both these fixtures dominantly, by 7 wickets and 170 runs, respectively.
The Indian skipper Shubman Gill has been exquisite in both the matches with his 84* and 154, which made him the Player of the Match in both the encounters. India fielded the debutants Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey in the 1st ODI, meanwhile, Prince Yadav made his debut in the 2nd one.
The Men in Blue gear up for their third and final clash against Afghanistan in Chennai on June 20. They are already leading the series by 2-0 and will aim for a clean sweep. Let us take a look at the predicted playing XI for the IND vs AFG 3rd ODI.
India’s probable XI for third IND vs AFG ODI
1. Rohit Sharma

The former captain Rohit Sharma has scored 16 and 48 in the first two matches. He looked comfortable in the middle, timing the ball well. However, he is yet to score a half century since the South Africa series. Amidst the constant scrutiny on his performances, Rohit would look to go big in the next match.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal was given the opening slot alongside Rohit in the 2nd ODI. He scored a scratchy 4(9). However, with India picking him in ODI squads regularly, the intent to prepare him as a backup opener seems clear. India would back him for the third ODI and give him more chances at the spot.
He has only played 5 ODIs so far, in one of which he scored a century. However, in the remaining four matches, he has failed to even go past 25 runs. He will need some games to get in the rhythm of the 50-over format.
3. Shubman Gill (C)

The skipper demoted himself to No.3 in third ODI in order to give Jaiswal a go at the opening slot in the 2nd ODI. He scored a blazing 154 batting at that position. Gill has been in sublime form since the IPL 2026 and will continue to amass runs. He has already scored 238 runs in two innings, with two Player of the Match awards.
In the absence of Virat Kohli, Gill has adapted well on this No.3 position, giving a left-right batting combination at the opening.
4. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan has been the most versatile batter in the side. He batted at No.3 in the first match and scored a quickfire 34. While batting at No.4, he hit a mammoth 125 in the second. He also kept the wickets in the first match.
Kishan has added a lot of dynamism to the middle order with his aggressive batting and attacking intent, along with being a gun fielder and a backup wicket-keeper.
5. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is the vice-captain of the side. He has scored only 38 runs in the two innings so far. Iyer has looked underwhelming in the series. He was attacked with short balls as soon as he came out to bat, and did get out to it in the first innings. He will look to score well in the third match, and regain his form ahead of the UK white-ball tour.
6. KL Rahul

KL Rahul has been another versatile batsman in the team. Rahul batted at No.5 and 6 in the two matches and scored a blazing 39* off 19 in the first one. He has unskilled his power-hitting and finishes the games well for India.
7. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar is the bowling all-rounder in the side, who has been bowling brilliantly lately. He bowled 7 overs in the 2nd ODI where he gave only 24 runs and picked one crucial wicket. His batting has also significantly improved since the IPL, where he scored 300+ runs this season.
8. Nitish Reddy

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been a very bright prospect for India in the white-ball setup. He played the 1st ODI in Dharamshala and in his 4 overs picked 2 crucial wickets, giving only 31 runs. He had a phenomenal IPL 2026 as well where he scored 300+ runs and claimed 8 wickets giving an all-round performance.
It has been made clear by the coaching staff that they are grooming Nitish as a potential backup to Hardik Pandya for the World Cup 2027. India could look to rest Gurnoor Brar and give Nitish a go-ahead.
9. Harsh Dubey
Harsh Dubey picked three wickets in the match at Dharamshala, which had very little to offer for the spinners. Despite a relatively flat track, he bowled brilliantly in his first ever ODI and delivered. He could be picked for the third ODI at Chennai, which is known to have some help for the spinners.
Moreover, Kuldeep Yadav was wicketless in the 2nd ODI and there are chances that he could be dropped from the side to give an opportunity to the bowling-allrounder.
10. Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana has joined the ODI squad in Chennai ahead of the 3rd clash. He was out of action from competitive cricket for past few months due to his injury, and has now been cleared by the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
There are chances of him getting a game on June 20. He last played the ODIs against New Zealand, where he picked 3 wickets and scored his maiden ODI half century in the 3rd ODI. India could rest Arshdeep Singh and bring in Harshit Rana.
11. Prince Yadav
Prince Yadav had a sensational IPL 2026, where he picked 16 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants. He debuted in the 2nd ODI on June 17 in Lucknow. He claimed two wickets on his debut. While Prince was fairly expensive in his economy in the 2nd match, they could give him another game to prove his mettle.
