The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member India women’s squad for the upcoming high-voltage Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024. BCCI made the announcement on Saturday, July 6.
India’s 15-member squad will be led by experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, with star opener Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy throughout the tournament. Interestingly, the selectors have named 21-year-old wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry, who earned her maiden T20I call-up for the national side.
The likes of Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh have also been included in the squad to strengthen the batting.
The bowling department also looks good, as BCCI selectors added: right-arm speedster Renuka Singh, star-leg spinner Asha Sobhana and two finger spinners Radha Yadav and Shreyanka Patil.
The selection committee has also named four traveling reserves. Shweta Sehrawat, Saika Ishaque, Tanuja Kanwer and Meghna Singh will travel with the side during Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024.
India are placed in Group A along with arch-rivals Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Nepal. The Women in Blue will start their Asia Cup 2024 campaign on July 19 when they take on Pakistan in Dambulla. Their next group stage match against the UAE will take place on July 21. It is to be noted that Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will play all their group stage matches at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024.
