3 big stars who might get dropped from India squad for T20 World Cup 2024 ft. Hardik Pandya
The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 2 in the USA and West Indies.
The first half of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is almost done, and the performances of some big Indian stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah has been pretty impressive. That will surely benefit India going forward in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the USA and West Indies. The ICC event will begin on June 2, and India will play their first game on June 5 against Ireland.
The selection of the Indian squad will be done on the basis of current performances in the ongoing IPL 2024. That might hurt the chances of some Indian players, who were in plans for the T20 World Cup 2024. Hence, the next few weeks will be very important for a few players in order to stay in contention. The squad is likely to be announced in the first week of May. Here, we will talk about three big names who might get sacked from the World Cup squad.
IPL 2024: 3 big stars who might get dropped from India squad for T20 World Cup 2024 ft. Hardik Pandya
3. Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma was the first-choice T20I keeper for India ahead of the IPL 2024. Ishan Kishan was on a break, and Rishabh Pant was not available. That made India focus on Jitesh as their premium keeper-batter. He had great seasons with Punjab Kings in the last two years and also played good cameos in T20Is for India.
But his current form in the IPL 2024 will make the selectors rethink his place. Adding to that, Pant has made a stunning comeback and is scoring runs. That might push Jitesh away from contention for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
2. Mohammed Siraj
The IPL is a make-or-break platform if you are an Indian player, and over the years, it has given many stars to India. But it also has an opposite reaction. Mohammed Siraj was India’s first-choice pacer, along with Jasprit Bumrah, across formats ahead of the IPL 2024.
But his performances this season have certainly raised some questions about his place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian pacer has leaked runs at 10.40 and has taken only four wickets in the ongoing IPL 2024. He is unable to bowl at good lines, and that can force the selectors to drop him from the World Cup squad.
1. Hardik Pandya
If this happens, it will be the biggest decision from the Indian selection committee. Some reports confirm that Ajit Agarkar had words with Indian captain Rohit Sharma over Hardik Pandya place in the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Hardik, who is leading Mumbai Indians, has performed below par. He has scored 131 runs with the bat.
But with the ball, he has only bowled 11 overs in six matches and taken thee wickets at an economy rate of 12. His role as an all-rounder is invaluable, but if he can’t bowl, India have other and better batting options. Hence, it is a high time for him; if he starts bowling regularly, then there are some chances, or else Shivam Dube and others are waiting in the wings.
