Bangladesh U19 defeated India U19 by four wickets in the 2nd semi-final of ACC U19 Asia Cup 2023.

In a nail-biting encounter at the ICC Academy 2 in Dubai on December 15, 2023, India Under-19 faced a crushing defeat at the hands of Bangladesh Under-19 in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19 Asia Cup semi-final. This disappointing loss follows their recent setback against arch-rivals Pakistan on December 10, where India succumbed to a defeat. Despite bouncing back with victories against Afghanistan and Nepal in the league rounds, U19 team couldn’t secure a spot in the tournament final.

Opting to bat first, India struggled to establish a formidable total, with early wickets falling rapidly. Adarsh Singh and Arshin Kulkarni departed within the first few overs, setting the tone for a challenging innings. Captain Uday Saharan‘s dismissal for a duck further compounded India’s woes. Musheer Khan’s valiant half-century and Murugan Abhishek’s well-fought 62 provided some stability, but the team ultimately posted a total of 188 in 42.4 overs.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Maruf Mridha and Rohanat Doullah Borson, maintained consistent pressure on Indian batters. Mridha claimed four crucial wickets, restricting India’s run flow. Bangladesh managed to keep India’s total within reach.

Chasing 189 for victory, Bangladesh faced early hiccups with the dismissals of Jishan Alam, Ashiqur Rahman Shibli and Chowdhur Md Rizwan. However, a stellar performance by Ariful Islam, who scored 94 runs, and Ahrar Amin’s crucial contribution of 44 steered Bangladesh towards the target. Despite a late resurgence from India’s bowlers, including Naman Tiwari’s three wickets, Bangladesh secured a hard-fought win with four wickets in hand and 43 balls to spare.

The India U19 team’s exit from the ACC U19 Asia Cup is undoubtedly a disappointment, especially considering the World Cup is just few months away. Bangladesh U19 will face UAE U19, who defeated Pakistan U19 in the first semi-final, in the final of the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2023 to be played on Sunday, 17th December, 2023.
