India’s strongest playing XI vs England for 3rd ENG vs IND ODI at Lord’s - Predicted

The ENG vs IND 3rd ODI is set to be played on July 19.

The Indian Cricket Team is gearing up for the clash against England. The series decider between the teams will be played on Sunday, July 19 at Lord’s. Currently, the ODI series stands at 1-1, and the do-or-die contest will determine the series winner.

India won the first match handsomely by six wickets, chasing down 259 within 46 overs. Axar Patel was the Player of the Match for his 4-wicket haul and match-winning 57*. Skipper Shubman Gill (80*) and Washington Sundar (52*) also hit half-centuries.

However, the second contest of the series resulted in a woeful defeat for the visitors. India posted 233 in the first innings, thanks to half centuries from Virat Kohli (65) and Shreyas Iyer (66). However, England chased down the target within 45 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Joe Root orchestrated the chase for England, scoring 99*.

The third and the final match of the ODI series and the white-ball tour is scheduled at the Home of Cricket. Both the teams are in a tough spot and Shubman-Gill led Indian side would aim to put their best foot forward to seal the series. On that note, let’s take a look at the probable playing XI that India can field on Sunday.

India’s probable playing XI for 3rd ENG vs IND ODI

1. Shubman Gill (c)

The Indian captain Shubman Gill registered one fine half century in a match-winning cause, scoring 80 before going out retired hurt in the first ODI. His elegant knock of 31 ended with him getting caught at the covers in the second match.

He will aim to continue his sublime form in the third ODI and be instrumental to India’s victory in the series, and register his maiden SENA series win as the captain.

2. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has so far had an underwhelming series for his standards. He has managed to score only 37 runs across the two matches. Rohit looked scratchy in the 2nd ODI as well. However, with the series on the line, Rohit being the senior player could step-up and do the job for the team.

3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli scored a brilliant half-century in the 2nd ODI, 65 runs, which guided India to a defendable total. He is one of the most important batsmen in the line-up for his sheer ability to take on the opposition and lead the team to victories. His role will be crucial at the middle.

4. Shreyas Iyer (vc)

Shreyas Iyer has scored 35 and 66 runs in the two matches so far, being India’s second highest run-getter in the series. He has taken up the responsibility as the vice-captain brilliantly and taken the onus in the middle overs. His strike rotation and the ability to hit boundaries at will, especially to the spinners, has been amazing to watch.

5. KL Rahul (wk)

KL Rahul missed the 2nd ODI because of illness, and was replaced by Ishan Kishan. However, if he is fit and available to play for the 3rd contest, he should be an automatic pick in the side. Rahul’s versatility and the balance he provides in the line-up is what pushes his contention for the spot.

6. Axar Patel

Axar Patel scored a match-winning 57 in the 1st ODI, along with four wickets in the match. He has been incredibly economical with the ball and has always been a gun fielder. His batting lower down the order provides a cushion to the line-up.

6. Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube is playing an ODI series after almost two years, and was brought in the side in the absence of other batting all-rounders. However, he has taken up the job very well. He bowled six overs in both the matches, and picked one wicket in each, bowling with an economy close to 5. He adds the firepower in the lower order and can finish games as well.

7. Gurnoor Brar

Gurnoor Brar has picked 4 wickets in two matches so far, but has been the most expensive bowler with regards to the bowling economy. However, the extra bounce that he generates off his deliveries has been handy in the English conditions. His wicket-taking in the middle overs is crucial. Moreover, his ball striking ability can be put to use at this position.

9. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav did not get a game in the ODI series so far, but is most likely set to play at Lord’s on Sunday, because Washington Sundar has been ruled out of that match. Kuldeep has been an incredible wicket-taker in the middle overs and can be pivotal for India’s victory in the 3rd match.

10. Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna has picked 3 wickets in the two matches, with an economy of 5.3. He was used in different phases of the game, and he bowled efficiently with discipline. His bowling partnership with Jasprit Bumrah has settled well for India.

11. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah in his ODI comeback series has been the most economical bowler of the campaign 4. He has claimed two wickets so far. However, he has played at Lord’s before and will hold the key to India’s win in the series.
