Indian cricketing fraternity mourns sudden demise of former pacer David Johnson
David Johnson played two matches for the Indian cricket team.
In a sad news for Indian cricket, former pacer David Johnson passed away at the age of 52 after falling from fourth floor apartment balcony in Bengaluru on the morning of June 20 (Thursday).
The tragic incident occurred at the SLV Paradise in Kanakashri Layout when David reportedly jumped from his balcony while his family members were at home. The Kottanur police reached the spot immediately and sent the body to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem.
However, it is suspected to be a suicide case due to depression. The investigation is further going under the observation of Kattanur police. “We were informed that he had fallen from the fourth floor of his apartment building. He was taken to a hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead,” the KSCA official told PTI.
David Johnson’s career for India and domestic circuit
David came into the national side on the basis of some of his brilliant performances around the Indian domestic circuit. The right-arm speedster from Karnataka was born on October 16, 1971. Johnson represented India in the mid-1990s.
The pacer made his test debut against Australia in Delhi on October 13, 1996, and played his last test match against South Africa in Durban in December 1996. In test cricket, the former Indian speedster played just two games and picked up three wickets at an economy of 3.57.
In First-Class (FC) cricket, David played 39 matches and scalped 125 wickets with an economy of 3.61. He had eight five-wicket hauls in FC cricket. David registered his best match figures of 10/152 against Kerala in the 1995–96 Ranji Trophy season. In List A, David featured in 33 games and took 41 wickets with an economy of 4.66.

Following Johnson’s demise, Indian cricketing fraternity expressed their sadness and extended condolences to David’s family. Former and current Indian cricketers took it to social media and shared messages for the late.
