Indian Cricket Team will play three T20Is against Sri Lanka in July 2024.

After a successful tour of Zimbabwe, the Indian cricket team will travel to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is, starting on July 27. The tour will start with the three-match T20I series. The squad was announced on Thursday, 18th July, and Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed the new T20I captain, while Shubman Gill will be his deputy.

Some players have been dropped, while some players who were part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are back. Riyan Parag and Khaleel Ahmed have retained their places in T20Is, while Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Mukesh Kumar have been dropped. In this article, we will discuss the predicted playing XI of India for the Sri Lanka T20I series.

Indian Cricket Team playing 11 for T20I series against Sri Lanka – Predicted

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the Indian cricket team for the last three games against Zimbabwe and finished with the second-most runs in the series. He scored 141 runs at an average of 70.50 and a strike rate of 165.88. He is expected to take Rohit’s place as the opener. So Jaiswal is a sure-shot pick to open the innings for India in the Sri Lanka T20Is.

2. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill ended the five-match series against Zimbabwe as the top run-scorer. He scored 170 runs at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 125.92 with two half-centuries. He looked in good touch, and with the added responsibility of vice-captain, he will look to make a mark here. Gill will be open with Jaiswal for India in Sri Lanka T20Is.

3. Rishabh Pant (wk)

Rishabh Pant will be the first-choice wicket-keeper in T20Is. He batted at No. 3 for India at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and will be playing the same role here. The Southpaw scored 171 runs for India in the tournament, and India are likely to stick with Pant. He will also continue his fearless approach.

4. Suryakumar Yadav (c)

The new captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is India’s permanent No. 4 in T20Is, and he will look to take control of the batting lineup from that position. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from T20Is, there will be a lot of responsibility on Suryakumar’s shoulders, and he has shown great consistency over the years. He will look to start with a series win.

5. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh had pretty good performances in the T20Is, and as India are looking to build a team for the next T20 World Cup in 2026, Rinku will be an important player in the lineup. He has shown a glimpse of a good finisher and can also play as per the situation. Rinku is a free-flowing batter, and with Suryakumar and Hardik guiding him, he can be more dangerous.

6. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is expected to continue his role at No. 6. His all-round ability will help India in both departments, and he is an asset to this team. Hardik played a key role in India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph with the bat and the ball. That’s why his presence in the playing XI will be more important.

7. Axar Patel

Axar Patel proved his ability with the bat and the ball in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. With Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20Is, Axar is expected to get regular matches now. He has improved as an all-rounder, which has benefited India in recent times. With pitches in Sri Lanka assisting spin, Axar will be a very important player in both departments for India.

8. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar won Player of the Series award in the recently-concluded Zimbabwe T20I tour. He ended up with 8 wickets and also played well with the bat. He gives India an off-spin option in the bowling department and can bowl at any stage of the match. Sundar is still young and will be very important for India on the pitches which assist spinners, just like in Sri Lanka.

9. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi had a fantastic Zimbabwe series. He was unplayable at times, and the batters were not able to pick his deliveries much. He is unlike Kuldeep Yadav and bowls at a decent pace. That’s where he troubles the batters, and he can be very handy on the spin tracks in Sri Lanka. So India might go with three spinners, and Bishnoi will surely be part of the squad.

10. Arshdeep Singh

After finishing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as the highest wicket-taker, Arshdeep Singh was rested for Zimbabwe tour, but now he’s back in the side for the Sri Lanka T20Is. The left-arm pacer has been superb for India in T20 internationals. He takes wickets with the new ball and also bowls well at the death. He has matured as a bowler under the shadow of Bumrah and is now India’s leading T20I bowler. So he will be bowling the new ball.

11. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj against Sri Lanka is something else. He has incredible numbers against them, and he will love bowling against Sri Lankans in this tour. Siraj will share the new ball with Arshdeep. He has done well for India across formats in the last few years, and we might see him delivering yet another time on this tour.
