7 Indian cricketers who were part of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 but are not in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad
Rohit Sharma will lead Indian Cricket Team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Indian Cricket Team’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has come up with some surprises. Seasoned players like KL Rahul and Shubman Gill have been dropped, while Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad were unlucky to not get a spot in the team.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the team. He led India to the semi-finals of the last edition in Australia in 2022. There are a number of players that were part of the current squad that played in the T20 World Cup 2022. Here we will talk about seven others who played in the 2022 edition but won’t be part of the upcoming event.
7 Indian cricketers who were part of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 but are not in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad:
1. KL Rahul
KL Rahul was one of the highest scorers for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and also played in the T20 World Cup 2022. He played six games in that event, but he will be the one big name to miss out on the coming event. He has done a tremendous job in the IPL 2024, but selectors went with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as two wicket-keepers because of their ability to bat in the middle-order.
2. Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda is another player who is not part of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He is not in the scheme of things for Team India at the moment, and his current form is also not good, which is the reason that he is not part of the squad and might not return to the side soon.
3. Dinesh Karthik
Veteran Indian keeper Dinesh Karthik played his last international match for India during the last T20 World Cup in 2022. He was the first-choice keeper in that tournament and played four games as well. But since that edition, India have given chances to young keepers, which is why he is not part of the coming up T20 World Cup 2024.
4. Ravi Ashwin
Veteran off-spinner Ravi Ashwin was also part of the T20 World Cup 2022 and hit the winning runs in the iconic IND vs PAK clash at the MCG. But he is not part of the current squad. India have picked four spinners, who are doing well in the ongoing IPL 2024. Ashwin’s numbers in the ongoing tournament are not encouraging.
5. Mohammed Shami
Selectors were forced not to select Mohammed Shami for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 not because of his form, but because of his unavailability. Shami has been out of action since completion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He went through surgery in February and still needs a few months to recover completely. Team India will hope that other pacers can do a good job for the team.
6. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was India’s first-choice pacer in the shortest format along with Jasprit Bumrah a couple of years ago. But the semi-final match against England was his last game for India. Since then, India have not picked him in either of the formats. He fell out of favour with under-par performances in 2022 and with given the rise of new bowlers, it will be very difficult to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar again in Indian colours.
7. Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel was also part of the T20 World Cup 2024, but he didn’t play any game in the tournament. He was India’s backup pacer in that edition and had made it to the squad based on his performance in the IPL as well as in bilateral series. But his declining form made him sit out of the team, and he is not on India’s radar anymore. That is why Harshal is not part of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
