Indian Cricket Team will tour England for a five-match test series.

Indian Cricket Team is all set to be seen in action during the five-match test series against England Cricket Team, starting 20th June at the Headingley in Leeds. This will be the first time since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 that the Indian side will be donning the whites, and it will also mark the beginning of the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC)

With the series around the corner, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad as well as the new test captain. Young Shubman Gill replaced Rohit Sharma in the role after the senior batter called time on his career in the longest format of the game along with Virat Kohli.

The Indian squad for the tests against England series saw some of the young players getting an opportunity, while there was disappointment for few players as despite having a good record, they failed to make it into the 18-member side. Also, two players also got a maiden call-up and in this article, we will take a look at them.

Two Indian cricketers who earned maiden test call-up for England tour:

1. Arshdeep Singh

One of the players who got the maiden call-up in the Indian test team was Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer, who has been the mainstay of the Indian bowling lineup in white-ball cricket, replaced Harshit Rana in the team from the last series in Australia. Although the fast bowler hasn’t played much First Class (FC) cricket, he surely brings in experience.

Arshdeep Singh featured in five FC matches across the 2024-25 domestic season and did a decent job as well. But what made selectors pick him was his county stint with Kent in 2023. Head selector Ajit Agarkar hailed him as a quality bowler and added that they needed five fast bowlers in the team, with Jasprit Bumrah not expected to play all five games.

2. Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan also earned his maiden call-up to the Indian test team. The left-hander is one of the exciting talents going in the Indian domestic circuit and has been consistently performing for his teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as the state team. The Tamil Nadu batter, although he doesn’t have a great record in FC cricket, surely has been picked on the quality that he possesses.

Sai Sudharsan, who averages under 40 in 29 FC games, slammed a century against England Lions at home last year and also hit a century for India A in Australia. Not only this, he also has a county century to his name as well. He also has been going through a purple patch in white-ball cricket and is the leading run-getter in IPL 2025 with 638 runs to his name for Gujarat Titans.
