Indian cricket team will tour Sri Lanka for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in July-August 2024.

After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India have bagged yet another T20I series as they thrashed Zimbabwe 4-1 in the five-match T20I series. Shubman Gill won his first series as India’s T20I captain. After the hiccups in the first game, India showed a remarkable comeback and dominated the next four matches. India’s next international assignment will be white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, where they will play three T20Is and as many ODIs.

The likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and others are likely to return to the T20I side, who were part of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad. That means a number of players who were part of the Zimbabwe T20Is might be dropped. Hence, we will talk about five stars who played in Zimbabwe but will be dropped from Sri Lanka T20Is.

Here are the 5 Indian cricketers who were part of ZIM T20Is might get dropped for Sri Lanka T20I

1. Dhurv Jurel

Dhurv Jurel has played 3 tests for India, but made his T20I debut in the first game of the Zimbabwe series. But, he failed with the bat and scored only six runs. Then, in the second game, he didn’t get any chance to bat. After that, Sanju Samson was back to the playing XI, and Jurel was dropped. Hence, with India already having Samson and Rishabh Pant expected to be back, we might see Dhurv Jurel getting dropped from Sri Lanka T20Is.

2. Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag was picked for the Zimbabwe T20Is after a spectacular IPL 2024. He was the third-highest run scorer of the tournament. But, he couldn’t translate that form in the Zimbabwe series. Parag was part of three matches and scored 24 runs in three innings. He wasn’t used with the ball as well. Now, he is likely to be dropped, as India already have a tough competition for the middle-order spots.

3. Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan has already made his debut for India in ODIs and has had good starts. He made his T20I debut in the third match against Zimbabwe, but couldn’t bat as the top order did the bulk of the scoring. Then, he was not part of the remaining three matches. So it will be tough for him to retain his spot because Jaiswal, Gill, Abhishek, and Gaikwad have done well, and the competition for top order is very strong currently.

4. Tushar Deshpande

The 29-year-old pacer, Tushar Deshpande, made his debut in the fourth game against Zimbabwe. He started with 1/30 and then took 1/26 in the fifth game. He had a decent start to his career in T20 internationals. But, it will be quite difficult for him to retain his place in the Sri Lanka T20Is because Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh will return, while Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar have done well in this series.

5. Khaleel Ahmed

It will be a similar story with the left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed as well. He played three matches in this series and took only three wickets. But, he couldn’t perform as well as he would have liked on his return to Team India. His average performances might not be enough for him to retain his place in Sri Lanka T20Is, because other bowlers have done pretty well. So we might not see Khaleel getting selected for the upcoming Sri Lanka T20Is.
