3 Indian cricketers who might retire from T20Is after ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach will end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has come to its final match, in which Team India will face South Africa at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. This is the third ICC final for Rohit Sharma and his men across formats in the last year; they lost the previous two to Australia.

This is also the last match for Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach, as his extended tenure will end after the final. Hence, India have another motivation to win the final to give Dravid a dream farewell. But we might also see the last of a few big-name Indian players as well.

There are some stars in the current squad for whom this final could well be the last game in the T20 World Cup, and there is a chance that some of them might retire after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja has been part of the Indian T20I side since February 2009, which is more than 15 years now. He has played 73 T20Is so far, taking 54 wickets and managing to score 513 runs overall. These stats don’t do justice to the quality of Jadeja.

The 35-year-old holds an important role for India in Tests and ODIs. With the emergence of Axar Patel, who is having an excellent tournament, Jadeja might decide to retire from T20Is after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

2. Rohit Sharma

This is most likely to be the last T20 World Cup for the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, and he has been putting everything he has into every game. Rohit is 37 years old, and with the 2025 Champions Trophy and 2025 World Test Championship coming up, he might decide to hang his boots from the shortest format.

Rohit might not be fit until the next T20 World Cup in 2026, but you never know. However, there are chances that irrespective of the result of the final, Rohit Sharma might announce his T20I retirement.

Virat Kohli is one of the fittest cricketers in the world right now and many will argue that he has enough cricket left in him to play and perform. However, with so much cricket being played, it is hard to focus on all three formats when you enter your mid-30s.

That is one key reason why we might see Kohli playing ODIs and tests for India and retiring from T20Is after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final. He still has incredible stats in T20Is, but with a number of youngsters coming up the ranks, he may decide to make way for the coming lot.
