IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 41 & 42, CSK vs PBKS & MI vs RR

Both the teams, PBKS and MI won chasing on Sunday's IPL 2023 double-header.

It was a day of thrilling run chases in the IPL 2023. On Sunday's doubleheader, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians chased down 200-plus runs. Tim David with his cameo powered Mumbai Indians with a stunning run chase against Rajasthan Royals. Tim David smashed 4 sixes in the last 5 balls he faced to provide Mumbai Indians life in the race for playoffs. Yashaswi Jaiswal’s century put RR in a strong position with 212 on board. Jaiswal scored 124 runs in 62 balls with 16 fours and 8 sixes but his inning was not enough for the Royals to win the game. Apart from Rohit Sharma, every other Mumbai batter made good use of the dew and a flat wicket against the Royals. From Cameron Green(40), Suryakumar Yadav (55), and Tim David’s 45 runs in 14 balls everyone contributed for MI In the run chase. Tim David’s cameo was the real difference between RR and Mumbai at Wankhede.

Saturday afternoon game was a thrilling run chase, Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets. In a crunch situation, Punjab Kings needed 3 runs in the last ball and Sikandar Raza proved the match-winner for Punjab Kings. Batting first, CSK openers were once again on fire. Ruturaj Gaikwad (37) and Devon Conway added 86 for the first wicket. Devon Conway’s 92 runs were key in CSK’s inning, he helped them in giving Punjab 201 runs target. While chasing, Punjab started well and they had a quick opening stand. Captain Shikhar Dhawan (28) along with Prabhsimran Singh (42) added 50 runs in just 4 overs. After a fiery opening stand, Punjab with a few partnerships in the middle overs, had control in the chase. Liam Livingstone (40) and Sam Curran’s (29) 57 runs partnership also paved the way for Raza to come in with an intent to chase the target. Matheesa Pathirana did bowl a brilliant 20th over but in the end, PBKS came out victorious with 4 wickets.

With a loss against Mumbai, Rajasthan is now 3rd place in the points table with 10 points. Mumbai Indians go up in the 7th after a close win against RR with 8 points. Punjab Kings with a close win over Chennai Super Kings have made the race for playoffs more interesting. Punjab with 2 points against Chennai Super Kings have now moved up to 5th place with 10 points in 9 games. Chennai Super Kings is 4th in the table with 10 points in 9 games. This is CSK’s second consecutive loss in the IPL 2023. Delhi Capitals are still at the bottom with only 4 points and 2 wins in their 8 games.

Yashaswi Jaiswal with a magnificent century against Mumbai Indians has earned the Orange cap on his head. Jaiswal with a century and Devon Conway with his 92 runs inning have made this race tougher than it was till Saturday. Yashaswi Jaiswal with his 124 runs inning, now has 428 runs in 9 innings and is the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2023. Devon Conway with his 92 runs inning has come up to 3rd place and has 414 runs in 9 innings. RCB captain Faf du Plessis is 2nd with 422 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad is 4th in this list with 354 runs. Virat Kohli is 5th with 333 runs.

Chennai’s Tushar Deshpande with his 3 wickets spell has earned the Purple Cap. Deshpande is now leading the bowling chart with 17 wickets in 9 games. Deshpande started poorly in the IPL 2023, yet he has developed himself as a leader of the CSK pace attack with his brilliance. Punjab Kings Arshdeep Singh is 2nd with 15 wickets in 9 games. Arshdeep could only pick up one wicket against CSK. RCB’s Mohammed Siraj is 3rd in this list with 14 wickets. Rashid Khan is 4th in this list with 14 wickets. Royals off-spinner R Ashwin with his brilliant two-wicket spell has jumped up to 5th place with 13 wickets.

What's in IPL on Monday?

On Monday night, Lucknow Super Giants will be taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the reverse fixture at Ekana stadium in Lucknow. It will be a battle of two in-form batting units taking on each other on a bowling-friendly wicket. Lucknow’s Ekana stadium has proved to be a bowler’s paradise wicket, not only in the IPL 2023 but also in international cricket. With Punjab winning their game against CSK, this game has become an important one for RCB. If they lose, their fight for the playoffs will become tougher.
