MI moved to the 3rd spot in the IPL 2023 points table after defeating table-toppers GT at Wakhede Stadium.

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed in the 57th match of the IPL 2023 being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12, 2023. GT are the table toppers in this tournament, while MI moved to the 3rd spot after back-to-back 200-plus chases.

Hardik Pandya, the GT captain, won the toss and decided to chase as no total is seemingly defendable on the Wankhede pitch off late. Both the teams came into this match unchanged.

MI had a flying start as openers Ishan Kishan (31 in 20) and Rohit Sharma (29 in 18) added 61 runs in 6 overs. However, GT vice-captain, Rashid Khan 4/30 came into the attack and removed Rohit, Ishan, and Nehal Wadhera in quick succession.

Then Vishnu Vinod (30) added 65 runs with Suryakumar Yadav, who hammered on 103* in 49 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes. His blitz took MI to a final total of 218/5 in 20 overs.

Rashid Khan (79*) did well with the bat in a losing cause for their team. Akash Madhwal picked three wickets for MI, as GT finished on 191/8 and lost by 27 runs.

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:

Thanks to this superb victory MI has jumped to the 3rd spot and is now behind CSK with 14 points from 12 matches. Despite the loss, GT continues to lead the points table with 16 points from 12 matches.

The race to playoffs has heated up and expect changes in IPL 2023 points table in the coming double-headers this weekend.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap:

Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant ton saw him leapfrog to third spot in the Orange Cap race. He now has 479 runs in 12 games. Faf du Plessis is still the orange cap holder with 576 runs in 11 innings. RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the second spot with 557 runs.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap:

The purple cap has been jumping heads like a frog as a day after getting it, RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has lost it to Rashid Khan who took four wickets vs MI. Khan now has 23 wickets in 12 matches. MI’s veteran Piyush Chawla climbed to the 3rd spot with 19 scalps in IPL 2023.

What’s in IPL on Super Saturday?

The double-header Saturday will see Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Hyderabad in the day match. In the second match of the day, Delhi Capitals (DC) will host Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Delhi.

These matches will be important for LSG and PBKS who have been hurt by MI’s win over GT in the points table.
