IPL 2024 auction: Full list of players bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought a total of 10 players in the IPL 2024 auction.
Before the IPL 2024 auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders aimed to reinforce their squad by recruiting 12 players for the upcoming season, with a specific emphasis on including 4 overseas members. Opting for some continuity, they chose to retain 13 players from the previous season, including 4 international players. A notable return for the 2024 season is Shreyas Iyer, who missed the IPL 2023 season due to injury. Iyer is set to make a comeback as the team’s captain, bringing leadership and experience to the side for the upcoming season.
With a purse of 32.70 crore, the Kolkata Knight Riders made efficient and strategic use of their funds. Despite spending more than half of their purse on Aussie fast bowler Mitchell Starc, they managed to buy some other players as well. They bought the likes of KS Bharat, Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Starc, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ramandeep Singh, Sherfane Rutherford, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Rahman, Gus Atkinson, Sakib Hussain
Kolkata Knight Riders finished 7th in IPL 2023
The Kolkata Knight Riders secured the 7th position in the points table, placing above Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023 season. Throughout their 14 league games, KKR achieved victory in 6 matches but faced defeat in 8, with some closely contested encounters that could have altered their position in the standings. Despite their efforts, the team ended with a negative Net Run Rate (NRR) at -0.239.
Rinku Singh’s impactful performance in IPL 2023 cannot be adequately expressed in words. As a finisher batting at number 5, Rinku emerged as KKR’s leading run-scorer for the season. Playing all 14 games and batting in every inning, he amassed an impressive total of 474 runs with a remarkable average of 59.25 and a magnificent strike rate of 149.52.
Kolkata’s mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, had a standout season with the ball. Finishing IPL 2023 with 20 wickets in 14 games, Varun posed a constant challenge to opposition batters with his effective spells.
