IPL 2024 auction: New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell sold to CSK for 14 crores

Unsold in IPL 2023 auction, Daryl Mitchell got a deal of whopping 14 crores today.

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell’s exploits in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 have borne amazing fruits for the cricketer. In the ongoing IPL 2024 auction which is being held in Dubai on December 19, 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) broke the bank to acquire his services.

Daryl Mitchell had an excellent outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 scoring 552 runs with two centuries, which both came against India. His average was 69 and his strike rate was 111.06. He was previously part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise but didn’t get many chances to show off his skills with the bat and the ball.

Mitchell had made his New Zealand debut in 2019 and thus far had an amazing international career. In 20 Tests, Mitchell has 1452 runs with 5 centuries and 9 fifties to his name with a best of 190. In 39 ODIs, Mitchell has 1577 runs with 6 centuries and 5 fifties with a best of 134 at a strike rate of 98.07.

In T20Is, Mitchell has 1069 runs in 56 matches with a best of 72* and a strike rate of 137.22. He also has a total of 24 wickets.

Daryl Mitchell sold to Chennai Super Kings

The ongoing IPL 2024 auction saw a bidding war for the New Zealand all-rounder when his name came up for bidding. He had entered at a decent base price and Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings got into a fight for his services. In the end, the MS Dhoni-led side won out by bidding INR 14 crores and got Daryl Mitchell for the IPL 2024.

He played only two matches for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 and made 33 runs in all, with the best score of 17 runs. The all-rounder was released by RR ahead of IPL 2023 and remained unsold in the IPL 2023 auction where he entered with a base price of 1 crore.

Backing his performance in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, Mitchell got sold for a whopping 14 crores in the 2024 auction in Dubai.
