IPL 2024: Deepak Chahar ruled out of CSK's return fixture against PBKS

Deepak Chahar had already missed two games before getting injured against PBKS.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar will miss his team’s next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala on Sunday. The pacer had picked up a groin injury in the match against Kings at Chennai on Wednesday.
CSK had posted 162/7 against PBKS in Chennai and Deepak Chahar was tasked with bowling the first over and everyone expected him to give an early breakthrough to the CSK team.
The Rajasthan pacer was already returning to action after missing a couple of matches including one against Mumbai Indians.
However, Chahar opened the bowling for CSK and was hit for a four on the second ball he bowled. After bowling that delivery, he was spotted walking awkwardly and appearing uncomfortable. He spoke with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad before walking off the field. Shardul Thakur walked up to finish the over.
After the match, CSK coach Stephen Fleming gave a pessimistic update about Chahar’s injury.
He had said: “Yeah, the travelogue is pretty busy. There’s a lot of ins and outs. So, Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. The initial feeling wasn’t great. So, I’m hoping for a more positive report when the physio and the doctor have a look.”
Deepak Chahar’s IPL and India career has been hampered by injuries, with the big one coming in 2022, as he missed the entire IPL and the T20 World Cup with a back issue.
“Deepak’s injury is not looking good”- CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan
In a more fresh update on Deepak Chahar’s injury, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the pacer will not play in CSK’s next match, against PBKS in Dharamsala.
“Deepak’s injury is not looking good. I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful. He has stayed back in Chennai. We’re waiting for a report from the medical team,” CSK CEO told Cricbuzz.
CSK also have players with fitness difficulties. Tushar Deshpande has the flu, but he has traveled to Dharamsala alongside Matheesha Pathirana, who missed the previous game due to a niggle.
After a promising start to the season, Chennai have lost three of their last four games, including two consecutive losses to LSG. They have 10 points from 10 games and are ranked fifth in the points table. They need at least three wins in the remaining games, and the injury concerns may have come at an inopportune time.
