Deepak Chahar had already missed a game due to a hamstring injury in IPL 2024.
Deepak Chahar of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put his franchise in a lot of trouble as he walked off the field in their ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), being played in Chennai on May 1, 2024.
Sam Curran continued to lead PBKS in Shikhar Dhawan’s absence and won the toss, choosing to bowl first on a two-paced surface in Chepauk. Ajinkya Rahane was the first wicket to fall for CSK, as he made 29 in 26 balls with five boundaries, before getting out to Harpreet Brar.
Shivam Dube got out on a golden duck and Ravindra Jadeja made 2 as CSK were reduced to 70/3 in 10 overs. But Ruturaj Gaikwad carried on and made a majestic 62 with five boundaries and two sixes. Impact sub-Sameer Rizvi made 21 runs, while Moeen Ali (15) and MS Dhoni (14) pushed CSK to a par 162/7 in 20 overs.
For PBKS, spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar picked two wickets each and didn’t concede a single boundary in their combined 8 overs.
Deepak Chahar leaves field after bowling just 2 balls of Punjab’s opening over
Punjab openers Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh came out in high spirits, especially after their record chase against Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match in IPL 2024.
Deepak Chahar was tasked with bowling the first over and everyone expected him to give an early breakthrough to the CSK team. Notably, Chahar had missed a couple of games in this IPL 2024 as well including one against Mumbai Indians.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, had then confirmed that Chahar has picked up a niggle and that is the reason why he was not available for selection.
Meanwhile, Chahar opened the bowling for CSK and was hit for a four on the second ball he bowled. However, after bowling that delivery, he was seen walking gingerly and seemed in discomfort. He talked to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and walked off the field. Shardul Thakur stepped up to complete the over.
