Captain Hardik Pandya scored 39 runs in Mumbai Indians’ first win of the season.
After disappointing start and facing criticism over leadership, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya finally registered first win as captain of MI in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pandya-led MI won the match against Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in April 7.
Earlier in the IPL 2024, MI suffered three consecutive defeats under Pandya’s leadership. However, MI and Rohit fans showed discontent with the change in capacity and with the way Pandya was leading the Mumbai franchise. Pandya faced heavy backlash from the crowd during the matches and also he faced heavy trolling across all social media handles.
In their fourth match against DC, Pandya’s MI finally broke the jinx as they registered their first victory of the ongoing IPL 2024. Adding more to it, they won the match in front of the home crowd.
After winning the match comprehensively, Mumbai skipper Hardik took to his social media handle ‘X’ and broke his silence after facing heavy trolling from Rohit and MI fans. The all-rounder uploaded a post and captioned “We’re up and running 💙.”
Here is the Hardik Pandya’s post:
Everyone believed we need just one win: Hardik Pandya after guiding MI to first victory in IPL 2024
MI captain Pandya said that everyone in the dressing room believed that they are just one win away in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Hardik added that there’s a lot of love and care going around in the changing room.
“It was a lot of hard work. We had to clear our minds and make sure that we believed. We will be making tactical changes here and there but this will be our 12 and settling our team now is important. There’s a lot of love and care going around in the changeroom. Belief and backing each other is the attitude out there. Everyone believed we need just one win.” Hardik Pandya said during the post-match presentation
Pandya also opened up about why he didn’t bowl during the DC innings. Pandya said that he will bowl at the right time and during Capitals’ innings all the bases were covered so he didn’t roll his arms over.
“It was an amazing start today, always wonderful to get 70 odd in 6 overs. The way everyone chipped in when the opportunity was coming was good to see. That was some hitting na (On Romario’s heroics). He won us the game. Difference was Romario v Delhi Capitals. I like him. Always has a smile on his face, doesn’t run away. (On why Hardik didn’t bowl) I am fine. I’ll be bowling at the right time, we had everything covered today so did not have to roll my arms over.” Pandya concluded.
