IPL 2024: Keshav Maharaj joins Rajasthan Royals in place of injured Prasidh Krishna

Keshav Maharaj joins Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have signed South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj as an injury replacement for Indian speedster Prasidh Krishna for the remaining season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Thursday, March 28.

Earlier, the star Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa pulled out of the 2024 season citing personal reasons and left the Royals’ squad with just two frontline spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.

It is understood that the Royals went for the backup spin option as they roped in Maharaj in place of Krishna for the ongoing showpiece event.

“Rajasthan Royals (RR) added Keshav Maharaj to the squad in place of Prasidh Krishna for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. RR have brought him on board for his base price of INR 50 Lac,” an IPL statement said.

The right-arm pacer Krishna recently underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon and is currently recovering. Earlier, he was ruled out from the prestigious tournament. The development was confirmed by the IPL on their official handle.

“The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the statement read.

His replacement Maharaj has featured in 27 T20Is, 44 ODIs and 50 Tests and has scalped 237 wickets in international cricket. Additionally, the left-arm spinner has played 159 T20s and picked up 130 wickets.
