IPL 2024: Massive boost for Lucknow Super Giants as Mayank Yadav starts bowling ahead of CSK clash
Mayank Yadav missed Lucknow Super Giants’ last two matches against DC and KKR.
The most difficult situation for batters in cricket is facing a fast bowler who regularly delivers balls at more than 150 kilometres per hour. The limitations of the batter’s reflexes are tested with every delivery. Batters in Twenty20 cricket must make every delivery count since the game moves at breakneck speed. They can’t afford to spend much time studying the bowler and playing him safely.
Making split-second judgements is a mental hurdle that every ball adds to. Batters are always on the verge of disaster due to the fast bowler’s astonishing combination of raw speed and flawless accuracy. Moreover, if a breathtaking fast bowler has complete control of his line and length, then he becomes a deadly weapon for any team.
The lightning-fast Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is one such name. He has become a household name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Yadav has had batters in utter chaos with his lightning-fast deliveries, which clock in at above 150 kmph on a constant basis. His performance versus RCB deserves some discussion. Incredibly, he took three wickets while limiting the opposition to only fourteen runs in just four overs. The “Player of the Match” accolade was well-deserved for him.
The 21-year-old prodigy has already attracted the attention of fans during this year’s IPL. Mayank started with a bang as he clocked 155.8 kmph on his IPL debut against Punjab Kings. He broke his own record in his very next game against RCB, when he bowled a delivery at the speed of 156.7 kmph, making it the fastest of the season and fourth fastest overall in the history of IPL>
However, following his heroics in first two matches against PBKS and RCB, where he won Player of the Match award, he suffered a blow as he got injured in his third outing of the season against Gujarat Titans, where he went off the field after bowling just one over. Even in the one over which he bowled, he didn’t look like how he bowled in the first two games and was able to hit the 140-kmph barrier only. Later it was revealed that he suffered lower abdominal pain.
IPL 2024: Massive boost for Lucknow Super Giants as Mayank Yadav starts bowling ahead of CSK clash
Due to the lower abdominal pain that Mayank Yadav sustained in the game against GT, he was unable to play in LSG’s subsequent matches against KKR and Delhi Capitals. The team management managed his workload in these games. A fast bowler is always on the brink of injury, and hence they should be managed well. Nevertheless, there is a cause for optimism when LSG posted a video on social media.
However, ahead of LSG’s next big match against Chennai Super KIngs, Mayank Yadav has returned to the nets and is bowling at his full tilt. This comes as a huge boost to the team. The same was confirmed when LSG posted a video of Mayank bowling during training session on their social media handle X (formerly Twitter).
LSG captioned, “Phir se udd chala,” which means, he’s flying again.
