IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants' Shivam Mavi ruled out of the entire season, leaves camp

Lucknow Super Giants signed Shivam Mavi for INR 6.4 crore at IPL 2024 auction.

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a pretty exciting season so far. It started with record viewership in the first game between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. All the games have been pretty intense, and the tournament is certainly living up to expectations. However, some teams have suffered some injuries to their key players, which has become a big headache for the teams in this two-month-long tournament.

On Wednesday, Lucknow Super Giants confirmed that star Indian pacer Shivam Mavi has to be ruled out of the IPL 2024 because of his injury. Notably, the Lucknow franchise signed the 25-year-old at a price of INR 6.4 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. He was suffering from an injury, and it has been learned that he won’t be able to get fit for remainder of the season.

LSG yet to name replacement for injured Shivam Mavi

LSG have suffered a big blow as Shivam Mavi won’t be fit in time for any game in the IPL 2024. Hence, he has been ruled out of the entire tournament. The 25-year-old always has been injury-prone, and that has come again for him here. The franchise confirmed the news through a post on their social media handle X (formerly Twitter). LSG tweeted, “You’ll come back stronger, Shivam. And we’re with you all the way.”

Notably, the pacer hasn’t played a game in the IPL 2024, and it will be the second consecutive season that he will miss due to injury. Mavi made his IPL debut in 2018 for the Kolkata Knight Riders after some good performances at the U19 level. He played four seasons for KKR. In 2023, he was part of Gujarat Titans, and in the same year, he also made his debut for India. Overall, he has played 32 games in the IPL.

He has taken 30 wickets at an economy rate of 8.71 and a best of 4/21. The franchise has not yet announced any replacement for Mavo. But LSG might want to have someone as a backup pacer. However, they have done pretty well in the tournament so far. They started the IPL 2024 with a defeat, but bounced back pretty well with two consecutive wins. Mayank Yadav, who made his debut two games ago, has been superb in two wins for the franchise. LSG will face Gujarat Titans in their next game on April 7.
