Mayank Yadav managed to take one wicket in the LSG vs MI match in Lucknow.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul has provided a crucial update on young pacer Mayank Yadav, who went off after bowling 3.1 overs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match No. 48 between LSG and Mumbai Indians (MI) played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, on April 30.
After winning the toss and opting to field first, Lucknow restricted Mumbai to 144/7 in 20 overs. For the visitors, Nehal Wadhera, with 46 runs, was the highest run-getter. While Tim David (35*) and opener Ishan Kishan (32) also chipped in with the bat. Other than these three, other MI batters failed to cross the 10run mark in the game.
While chasing 145, LSG skipper Rahul made 28 runs, whereas Marcus Stoinis played a match-winning knock of 62 runs, which guided Lucknow to a four-wicket win over Mumbai.
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless and Hardik Pandya took two wickets. Mohammad Nabi, Gerlad Coetzee, and Nuwan Thushara scalped one wicket each. With this loss, the five-time champions MI are almost out of the race to reach IPL 2024 playoffs.
Mayank Yadav returns to dressing room while bowling his last over of his spell against MI
The 21-year-old pacer Mayank Yadav, who missed LSG’s last five games, due to injury, made a comeback to the playing XI in the match against MI after being declared fit on Monday.
During the match against MI, LSG skipper Rahul brought in Mayank Yadav to bowl the 18th over of the first innings. On the very first ball, Mayank took the wicket of the dangerous Mohammed Nabi (1). Soon after the wicket celebration, the LSG pacer went off the field with the physio and then never returned to the field.
The 21-year-old pacer gave away 31 runs and picked up one wicket in the 3.1 overs he bowled in the match. After winning the crucial match, the Lucknow skipper shared an update on Mayank. Rahul said that after taking the wicket, Mayank came to him and said ‘Thoda dukh raha hai’ (It’s paining).
“He had abdominal pain last time when he got injured and then suffered abdominal soreness. Today after he took the wicket, he came to me and said ‘Thoda dukh raha hai,’ so we didn’t risk and i told him to go out of the field. He’s young and we’ve to take care of him.” told KL Rahul in the post match presentation to Murali Kartik.
