IPL 2024: Most runs, most wickets after Match 9, RR vs DC
Rajasthan Royals registered their second victory in the IPL 2024 tournament.
Right-handed batter Riyan Parag showcased his talent once again as he continued his good form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by hammering an unbeaten 84 off just 45 deliveries to help hosts Rajasthan Royals (RR) post 185/5 against visitors Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on March 28.
The Royals made just 58/3 in their first 10 overs after losing Yashasvi Jasiwal (5), Jos Buttler (11) and skipper Sanju Samson (15) cheaply. However, Parag’s efforts meant that Rajasthan smashed 128 runs while losing just two wickets in the last 10 overs, including a huge 25-run over against DC’s ace pacer Anrich Nortje by Parag in the 20th over.
The Capitals were great with the new ball, but were taken to the cleaners later by Parag, Ashwin (29), Dhruv Jurel (20) and Shimron Hetmyer (14*) as the hosts posted over 180 runs in the first innings.
While defending 186 runs, DC started on a shaky note as they lost opener Mitchell Marsh (23) and No. 3 batter Ricky Bhui (0) inside the powerplay. Both the wickets were taken by RR left-arm pacer Nandre Burger. The Capitals just managed to score 59/2 in six overs. However, DC made a comeback and were 89/2 at the end of 10 overs.
Just when things were going in favour of the Capitals, pacer Avesh Khan removed the well-set David Warner in the 12th over. Warner smashed 49 runs during his stay. Rishabh Pant (28) also departed in the 14th over, with wily leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal taking his wicket. Chahal then removed Abhishek Porel in the 16th over.
However, overseas batter Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten knock of 44 runs in 23 balls went in vain as the Royals won against the Capitals by 12 runs.
