After defeating SRH by eight wickets, KKR reached the IPL 2024 final.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Qualifier 1, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers bowled superbly as they restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a below-par total of 159 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 21.

After opting to bat first, the Hyderabad batters failed miserably, as only four players could manage to reach double-digits. Rahul Tripathi scored a 35-ball 55 and was the top scorer for his side. Heinrich Klaasen (32), Abdul Samad (16), and skipper Pat Cummins (30) chipped in with the bat as Hyderabad reached a little above 150 runs.

For KKR, fast bowler Mitchell Starc, IPL’s costliest player ever, delivered with the ball as he bagged three wickets, including the wicket of Travis Head in the first over of the match. Varun Chakravarthy took two scalps.

While chasing 160, Kolkata openers Sunil Narie (21) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (23) stitched a crucial partnership of 44 runs for the first wicket, before skipper Shreyas Iyer (58*) and Venkatesh Iyer (51*) formed a match-winning partnership of 97* runs in 44 balls as Kolkata won the contest by eight wickets and more than six overs to spare.

With this victory, Kolkata reached the IPL 2024 final directly. SRH will now play Qualifier 2 in Chennai against the winner of the Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
